Architectural metalwork

Working with the architect at planning stage, Bespoke Glass Structures submitted a pc sum to the client for the required works. We were appointed to the project and worked with the architect to come up with some provisional designs.

The 10th Serpentine Gallery Pavilion, designed by French architect, Jean Nouvel, consisted of bold geometric forms including a 12m high gravity-defying free-standing wall.

Working closely with Nouvel's team, Arup and the Gallery, we employed completely different manufacturing capabilities from the 2009 design. Providing all metalwork and supporting structures, we identified practical design solutions along with providing the distinctive paint finish.

Bespoke Glass Structures attending a site meeting following appointment of the project where we conducted a 3D survey to ensure all of the ground was level and square. We then went into production of the steel, glass and insulated aluminium pressings.

The transparent nature of glass means that this type of extension barely interrupts the view of the original building to which it is attached. Framework can be kept to a minimum and if the building is of particular importance, low iron glass can be specified to ensure that any blue or green tint is removed from the glass, therefore increasing its transparency.

Now fully complete, the project looks highly impressive and have made the clients and architects vision a reality.

The Frameless glazing allows natural light to flood the building enhancing the Serpentine experience. With the right preparation, planning and design; we were able to achieve perfection.
